Ingredients:

For the Tiramisu:

  • 1 cup heavy cream (240ml)

  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese (240g)

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature, with 2 tablespoons cocoa powder stirred in

  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)

  • 24-30 ladyfinger cookies

  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

For the Homemade Chocolate Sauce:

  • 1 cup milk (240ml)

  • 1 ¼ cup heavy cream (300ml)

  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder

  • 12 oz good quality dark chocolate, between 60-70% cocoa (340g)

For the Whipped Cream Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream (240ml)

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Homemade Chocolate Sauce:

1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and heavy cream over medium heat until just simmering.

2. Whisk in the powdered sugar and espresso powder until dissolved.

3. Remove from heat and add the dark chocolate, stirring until completely melted and smooth.

4. Allow the chocolate sauce to cool slightly before using it to drizzle over the tiramisu.

For the Tiramisu:

1. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

2. In another bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined. Set aside.

4. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee with cocoa powder and coffee liqueur (if using).

5. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are moistened but not soaked.

6. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x9x2.25-inch baking dish to cover the entire surface.

7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer of ladyfingers.

8. Drizzle approximately half a cup of hot chocolate sauce on top of the mascarpone mixture, allowing it to flow in every direction.

9. Put the baking dish in the freezer for about 10 minutes to allow the hot chocolate to set.

10. Repeat the same three layers once again: ladyfingers dipped in coffee and cocoa powder mixture, mascarpone mixture, and hot chocolate sauce. Ensure all the mascarpone mixture is used up by the end of this step.

11. Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate it overnight (or for at least 4 hours) to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

For the Whipped Cream Topping:

1. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form.

2. Transfer the whipped cream to a piping bag fitted with a decorative tip.

Final Assembly and Decorating:

1. Once the tiramisu has chilled and set in the refrigerator, remove it from the fridge.

2. Pipe the homemade whipped cream on top of the chilled tiramisu in a decorative pattern.

3. Dust the entire top of the tiramisu generously with cocoa powder using a fine-mesh sieve or a cocoa powder shaker.

4. Slice and serve the tiramisu immediately, allowing guests to enjoy the creamy layers and rich flavors.
