Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies

Introducing the indulgent Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, a delectable treat that transcends borders with its rich and nutty flavors. Originating from the American culinary tradition, these cookies elevate the classic chocolate chip cookie experience by incorporating brown butter for a caramelized depth and toasty aroma. Packed with a generous amount of chocolate chips and crunchy pecans, each bite is a symphony of textures and tastes, striking the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The warm, gooey centers and golden-brown edges make these cookies a comforting delight for any occasion.

While these cookies find their roots in the United States, a parallel can be drawn to the Italian tradition of biscotti, which shares a similar penchant for nutty ingredients and delightful crunch. In Italian households, biscotti are often served alongside a cup of espresso or dipped in Vin Santo, a sweet dessert wine. This timeless pairing not only satisfies the sweet tooth but also provides a moment of respite in the bustling pace of daily life. Similarly, the Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies can be seen as a modern interpretation of this global cookie culture, uniting people across diverse backgrounds through the universal joy of indulging in a perfectly crafted sweet treat.

These cookies are best when served slightly warm with a glass of non-dairy milk.
Vibe: For a relaxing and soothing vibe while making these cookies, I recommend the song "Hoppípolla" by Sigur Rós. This Icelandic band's music often has a serene and ethereal quality that can create a calming atmosphere. "Hoppípolla" is particularly known for its beautiful instrumental arrangement and uplifting melody, making it a perfect choice for a relaxing baking session. Happy baking! 💋

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

  • 1 cup roasted and salted peanuts, chopped

  • Flaked sea salt for topping

Directions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped peanuts.

  6. Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of cookie dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving enough space between each.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may still look slightly undercooked, but they will continue to set as they cool.

  8. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, sprinkle a small pinch of flaked sea salt on top of each cookie. This enhances the sweet and salty contrast.

  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. Once cooled, enjoy your Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Peanut Cookies with a perfect balance of flavors!
